MWRMichael Waltrip Racing announced today it will not field a full time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team in 2016.  MWR has granted drivers Clint Bowyer and David Ragan their releases.  This will allow the duo to start negotiating with teams for the 2016 season immediately.

This news comes on the heels of part owner Rob Kauffman announcing that he will be owning a share of Chip Ganassi Racing beginning next season.

MWR has been fielding a full time NSCS ride for eight seasons.  MWR accumulated seven Sprint Cup Series victories and in 2012 , driver Clint Bowyer finished second in the points standings.  The following season however, MWR was involved in controversy at Richmond.  Bowyer “intentionally spun out” to bring out a caution,  teammate Brian Vickers pit at the restart of the race all of a sudden and this was all to help teammate Martin Truex Jr to have a higher finishing position and it propel Truex into the chase. The following week NASCAR docked Truex and his team 50 pre-chase points which effectively kicked him out of the chase.  Which also led to lose of sponors, the lost of Truex and taking the 3-car team to a 2-car team.

This move also propels driver Clint Bowyer into a prime position for the offseason as he will potentially be the hottest free agent on the market. The 2015-2016 NASCAR silly season has begun.
