Last Race Recap: Chase qualified fifth in his Southern Super Series debut at Mobile International Speedway. Though the car was good early, Chase struggled with the handling in the second half of the race. Despite the ill-handling machine, he still was able to bring home a top-ten finish in 9th.
Returning Home: Before getting the call to move to David Gilliland Racing, Chase competed in five CARS Late Model Stock Tour events this season. This will be his first CARS Super Late Model Tour race, but his previous late model stock experience at the track should pay dividends. In five CARS Late Model Stock Tour races this year, Chase has one top-five and three top-ten finishes. He finished 13th in his CARS debut at this track in April.
Potent Professors: For the first time during his tenure at David Gilliland Racing, Chase will have the resource of race-winning teammates racing with him during the same weekend. Teammate Raphael Lessard won the most recent race for the CARS Tour at Concord, and his other teammate, defending series champion Cole Timm, won the season opener at Southern National one year ago and also won in his sole start for DGR in June. As a young racer trying to learn super late models, Chase will likely be bending their ears multiple times over the course of the weekend to learn everything he possibly can.
Chase’s Thoughts: “To be honest, I’m a little nervous about Southern National, but still very excited about going to race there this weekend. I’ve learned over the last two super late model races that ‘save mode’ is a lot more difficult than a late model stock, you have to really be smart and take care of your equipment, and that qualifying is extremely important. I love the track though, it’s fast and high-banked and I think that really suits my style. Our DGR car should be really good this weekend and if I listen to my crew chief, Derek Smith, and the guys around me, we will likely have a shot to win. But before we worry about that, I’m focused on trying to learn as much as I can and go from there.”
