Last Race Recap: Cole joined forces with Doug Elliott’s Phase One Motorsports last weekend at New Smyrna for the Orange Blossom 100. After starting on the front row, Cole ran into handling problems and other circumstances which challenged him and his team, but they still soldiered onto a top five finish in their first outing together.

Repeat Performance: Last year, Cole was consistently a force to be reckoned with at the World Series of Asphalt. He captured a win in the pro late model and multiple top-three finishes. Although he was shut out of victory lane in the super late model last year during the World Series, Cole was able to visit victory lane twice during his four weekly series events at New Smyrna.

Additional Track Time: Cole had some additional track time at New Smyrna in January. While he raced in the Red Eye 100 weekend in a pro late model, Cole also tested an ARCA Racing Series ride for Mason Mitchell Motorsports at New Smyrna in anticipation of possible future events in 2017. Although nothing has been contracted between any parties, Cole has opportunities available to move up from super late models on his plate in 2017 and beyond.

Cole’s Thoughts: “I’m just really thankful for Doug Elliott and Phase One Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to race for the next week. As a team, we know what we have for a racecar and we are really going to focus and do the best we can this week. Having good qualifying runs to make the invert is big because we don’t want to be stuck in the back with these short races, it makes it really tough to compete for wins if that happens. Finishing every night with minimal damage will be a goal for us, too, because Speedweeks can be brutal, but we are ready for almost anything it can throw at us. We are doing some more testing with our primary car on Wednesday just to make sure everything is in tip-top shape. If everything goes good, we will take our secondary car out to shake it down. It’s a brand new car so we just want to make sure everything is ready in case we need it.”
