Last Race Recap: Giovanni made his debut in a pro late model with David Gilliland Racing at Montgomery Motor Speedway as part of the Show Me the Money Series. A miscue in qualifying found him starting in the final row of the field in 23rd. By lap 50, he had made his way inside the top ten and was continuing to race his way forward until contact with another car broke a suspension piece that ultimately forced Giovanni to the pits with less than thirty laps to go.
Escaping The Snow: Giovanni spent the week in North Carolina while his home on Long Island, New York, was preparing to be pounded with a substantial Nor’easter snowstorm. While his friends and schoolmates were celebrating a snow day, Giovanni was in the DGR shop learning about his racecar and assisting the team in preparation for this weekend’s event.
Giovanni’s Thoughts: “My main goal this weekend is to finish the race and do it in the top fifteen, hopefully the top ten. My expectations are that I will do a lot better than the last race at Montgomery where I had a miscue early in the day which put us behind. I tried to take very good notes on what to improve and am confident those will really help me in this race. The biggest challenge will be the quality of competition. It’s a very big race with a lot of racers, and my task is to concentrate on what I need to do in order to learn and get better as a driver. A good weekend at the end of the race on Saturday night would be a top ten or even a top five. These guys have worked so hard to build the best car for me and I believe I have the car to do it. I’ll be working on conserving my car so we have something to work with at the end of the race.”
