Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. is the 2011 Riverhead ( L.I) Raceway Modified Division Champion. He has not competed regularly at his Home Track since because the M3 Technologies Team has been on the WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR. However, when the Tour is in town, Bonsignore has done extremely well on the oval out East.
On Saturday night, Bonsignore won the WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR feature on their second visit of 2016. It was his second win on Long Island in two years, as he also won a rain-delayed affair last season that was run on Sunday afternoon. Riverhead can be a tricky circuit to navigate on occasion. Familiarity with the layout can be a distinct advantage. That was borne out Saturday when the top four finishers all were Long Islanders. Timmy Solomito, Shawn Solomito and Tom Rogers, Jr. followed Bonsignore across the finish line.
A three-division “undercard” was also included in the program. Tommy Walkowiak won the Blunderbust Feature. While not as consistent in 2016 as in the past, the Ridge resident scored his second win of the season.
Also visiting Victory Lane for the second time this season after winning the Crate Modified Feature was 14-year- old, second-generation driver Dillon Steuer. The young man is obviously a quick study under the guidance of dad, Chuck, who drove a Tour Modified (Dillon also drives in that division) before hanging up his helmet to concentrate on his son’s racing career.
Finally, Richie Davidowitz won the Legend Division feature event. After driving for VISCONTI MOTORSPORTS in 2015 when they campaigned a Legend, the Moriches resident brought the family-owned #25 out of the garage this year and is enjoying a successful season in his own right.
Speaking of VISCONTI MOTORSPORTS, that team did yeoman’s work to rebuild a demolished car in two weeks to hit the track this past weekend.
