This blog will resemble my RIVERHEAD RACEWAY HOT LAPS newspaper column with some added extras thanks to my HOT LAPS WITH STATS radio program with Mr. C.J. Sports and myself.  This past Saturday night at Riverhead  ( L.I.) Raceway, some drivers who haven’t won in a while showed up in Victory Lane and tightened the points races in a number of divisions in the process.

The one division where the leader, Shawn Solomito, still has a commanding lead is Tour Modified. Still, the competition on this night saw Tom Rogers, Jr. capture his first win of the season in just his fifth start. The Defending Division Champion was slowed early this season by health concerns. In gaining his first victory in the division,  Rogers duplicated a feat from a few weeks ago when he captured a Figure 8 win while subbing for Tom Ferrara. Rogers is also defending champion in that division.

While Rogers finished third in the Figure 8 Feature, the story on this night was two veterans who battled to the checkered flag, with young Kenny Hyde, Jr. gaining his eighth career victory over Roger Maynor, who has over 100 career wins to his credit.

John Beatty, who has competed in Modifieds and Legends in the past, got his first Legend win of the season. So did Tommy Walkowiak in the Blunderbusts,  Eric Zeh in the Late Models and Terry Stiles in the Crate Modified. For Stiles, it was his first division victory after stepping up from Blunderbusts in the past.

I  would like to end this edition with a few random notes. First, a BIG THANK YOU to all the guests who have appeared thus far on HOT LAPS WITH STATS with Mr.C.J.
