The 2016 CARS Super Late Model Racing Tour season reached its midway point on Saturday at Greenville Pickens Speedway, where second-year Tour competitor Quin Houff extended his streak of top ten finishes in the series to nine, dating back to race seven of last year. Quin finished the 2015 season ranked 4th in the Championship standings, a mark he is positioning himself to improve upon this year.
At this point last year, the Weyers Cave, Virginia native had an average finish of 10.6. This year he’s cut that almost in half, with an average finish of 5.8 through the first five races.
Saturday’s LeftturnsandSunburns.com 200 was Quin’s first race on the .5-mile Greenville Pickens oval, and the team spent considerable time testing multiple set-ups in practice sessions on Friday and again on Saturday afternoon. He qualified for the 100-lap race in the 7th position.
Quin stayed inside the top ten for the entire race, which saw two cautions early, then went caution free for the final two-thirds of the race. A last lap pass brought him back to 7th, just behind two of his competitors for the championship.
“Another very solid top 10 finish with the CARS Tour, but we are going to need a little more if we want to get back in the championship lead,” Quin commented after the race. “The team will work hard to prepare for our next race, which is July 22nd at Lucas Oil Speedway (Indiana) with the ARCA / CRA series. After that, we’ll be ready to get back to the CARS Tour championship battle at the end of July.”
Quin, one of seven drivers named to the Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) this year, now has a total of two wins, seven top five and 11 top ten finishes in fourteen career CARS Tour Super Late Model races. The next event for the CARS Racing Tour is July 30th at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina.
