Well we have the very first player signed to the Golden Knights team in Vegas. Meet Reid Duke, a 21 year old RW who was playing for Brandon of the WHL. Kelly McCrimmon was owner, GM, and coach during his tenure with the minor league team from 1989 until August 2nd of last summer, where he was hired in Vegas. McCrimmon has had the luxury of watching Duke play.
Duke was drafted by Minnesota in the 6th round, (169 overall), in 2014 but never signed. He also skated with the N.Y. Rangers at the Traverse City Prospects tournament, and attended the Montreal Canadiens developmental camp this past September. Duke has 250 points in 306 WHL games, (113 goals, 137 assists). Duke has signed a 3 year entry level contract for the Knights, he stands at 6 foot and 192 pounds, so he isn’t the biggest of wingers, which is a good thing. He could have some good speed and he can obviously score.
We’ll see how things keep turning up for the Vegas Golden Knights as the season is crawling to the end. It’s a little weird that a player has been signed before a coach, and will they keep this trend up. With a crop of names as potential head coaches who know what is gonna happen next for Vegas!
