Justin Thomas                                                                   Xander Schauffle

Last year at this time, golf media, fans, and PGA Tour Officials were speculating about when Tiger Woods would return, November or December, in what was already one of the shortest “offseasons” in sports.

So, this season, which is to say the 2017-2018 season  what does the PGA do? They make the break even shorter, with golf becoming the latest sports to render the off-season obsolete.

No sooner had Justin Thomas been named your FedEx Cup Champion and Player of the Year (albeit helped somewhat by a freak injury to Dustin Johnson just a week before the Masters) and Xander Schauffle been named Tour Champion in his Rookie Year, then the new season commenced a mere week after the Americans scored a dominant victory over the Internationals in the Presidents Cup, which is similar to what the NFL does in playing the Pro

Bowl after  the Super Bowl.

Brendan Steele

For some, the golf season doesn’t get into full swing (pun intended) until the Tour visits Hawaii in January. Still, Brendan Steele saw to it that this portion of the season got off to a competitive start. He successfully defended his SAFEWAY Open title around the Silverado Resort and Spa North Course in Napa, California,  earning a two-stroke victory over Tony Finau.
